Nest: A multilayered cup of leaves, rough outer materials, and finer lining, wedged into a fork in a branch; built mostly by female.
Eggs: 1–5; grayish to buff to greenish white, dotted and speckled with gray to brown.
Incubation: 11–13 days, by female.
Nestlings: Hatchlings with transparent yellowish skin, red-orange mouth lining, and wisps of fine gray down; fledge in about 9–10 days.
Broods: 2–3 in northern areas, 5–6 in the southern U.S.

Food:
Wild: A diversity of seeds, berries in season, and insects when feeding nestlings.
